Weight Pull Titles: The following are International Weight Pull Association titles. I consider the IWPA pulls to be far superior in safety and significance of degree earned, to those held by the UKC, ADBA or AAPBA. For these reasons I compete only (and encourage others to compete only) in IWPA pulls. A dog's safety and an owner's pride in title are of the utmost importance to me. WD
= Working Dog. Pulls of over 12 x body weight at 4 different pulls. Dogs further compete for a Gold, Silver and Bronze medal for each region (made up of several states). There is also a "National" at the end of each season where dogs compete for Gold, Silver and Bronze medals for that championship. *IWPA pulls are held as either snow or cart pulls. Information given for degrees here is for cart pulls. Carts are wheeled and not on rails. Rail systems allow for far higher weights to be pulled. The dog must pull on the same surface that the cart rides on. Schutzhund There are two main national organizations in the US offering schutzhund titles. One is a German Shepherd breed club, called United Schutzhund Clubs of America. They do allow some other breeds to compete, but pit bulls are banned. Pit bulls can compete if they register as American Staffordshires. Since my dogs are pit bulls, and not Am Staffs, I do not use this club. The other club is based in Germany, and is called the DVG. They do allow pit bulls. B

French Ring: Brevet:
The Brevet is required before competing at in Ring I. Includes obedience,
food refusal and advanced bite work. Pit bulls may compete in AKC obedience (assuming they are not AKC registered Am Staffs) if they obtain what is called an "ILP" or Indefinite Listing Privilege. The UKC has a similar program with a similar name, copied after the AKC program. These days dogs are required to be spayed or neutered in order to obtain an ILP. Dogs must meet the standard for an American Staffordshire Terrier, i.e., they cannot be red nosed or pure white, though exceptions have been made. The ADBA does not offer obedience competitions of any type. Flyball: FD: Flyball Dog 20 Certificate |
