History of Boldog Training Kennel

I titled my first dog in 1975. From my early teens on I worked in the guard dog business then became a certified police K-9 trainer/instructor in 1977. I enjoyed my time as a professional trainer, but my true love was working my own dogs.

In the mid-80's I got my first pit bull, Dread, and
settled on the kennel name of "Bandog", being something of an Anglophile and canine historian. The term "Bandog" was used in the Middle Ages to denote dogs used in the British Isles as home guardian dogs. However, I changed the name to "Boldog" in 2003, to avoid confusion associated with those who breed pit bull mix breeds and call them "Bandogs".

My personal dogs and I have earned over 60 training titles, in everything from sheep herding to schutzhund. My favorite dogsports are French ring, DVG schutzhund and IWPA weight pulling.

I prefer pure positive methods. This "hands-off" method has brought me fantastic results and the dogs and I have a blast!

I'm not a "serious" trainer; I have no interest in national wins. I just like to have fun with my
dogs and show the public the performance side of my favorite breed.

The past several years have been very frustrating for me as I have had to give up most training. I've had two total knee replacements, suffered severe anemia, and am losing my mobility to psoriatic arthritis; my training these days is extremely limited.

Special thanks to Les Flores and Dara Hunt-Flores for helping me with my schutzhund training.

In fond memory of those who have gone on ahead...

Bandog Brittania
SchH I, WDS, HC

One helluva dog.

Bandog Thriller
HC

Everyone's favorite.
Just a plain, great dog.

Grim

Rescue cane corso.
No titles, but the only good corso I've ever met.
One helluva guard dog even though completely dysplastic.

Endarko v.d. Zahn (Odin)
SchH I, WDS

Lux v. Bismark

I love my Dobermans. Lux was, without a doubt, the best working Dobe I ever owned, but she came at a time when I was unable to work her. Odin was just a great, friendly, wonderful dog and I miss him terribly. I wish I had them both back.

Wolf

Rescued wolf hybrid. (Shown here with Lux). Wolfie was a sweet animal and everyone loved him. He had his issues, however. Wolf hybrids are a stupid idea, and should not be produced.

Wyllum
WDS, B, CGC, TT, EAC, EGC, EJC, AD, OA, OAJ
IWPA GOLD MEDALIST in the 40 pound class Region 2

I imported Wyl from the UK for Heather Ringwood. He passed away in 2005, much loved and very, very missed. Not my dog, but one helluva friend. Sleep well my friend.

Guppy The Puppy

Sadly missed. A sweet pup.

Keeper

Rescue bullmastiff
A serious working guard dog sorely missed.
