The LawDogs program I was running donated a fantastic black and white pit bull bitch to the Washington State Patrol which appeared to be spayed. This bitch, "X-Dog" was of such exceptional quality that she quickly became a "star" at the WSP training center, graduating at the top of her class and ultimately becoming the top explosives detection dog in the 50+ dog program. The WSP were considering starting a "puppy breeding program" and were considering either X dog or malinois shepherds to start the program. I saw this as a once in a lifetime opportunity for the pit bull breed, so I agreed to assist them if they used X - Dog and then spayed her after the litter.

Dirk was tested for detection dog work and passed with flying colors. X was x-rayed and tested and passed her health tests. The breeding was made and two pups were selected by WSP trainers to be raised as detection dogs. Both pups were neutered. I retained the other pups.

I have not shouted about this breeding from the rooftops, for the simple reason I am not in favor of breeding "rescue" dogs. It took an exceptional circumstance to convince me to make this breeding, and I have no regrets... The dogs down from this cross are my best. I do not sell my dogs to the public; these animals are of interest only to serious working and sport homes, people who understand that fantastic dogs are where you find them. Unfortunately, due to internal policy/politics and spending decisions, the WSP has decided to purchase dogs instead of continuing with a breeding program. Pups down from the Dirk/X line will continue to be offered to law enforcement for detection purposes.

Grim was born with a "screw" tail and one of the sweetest natures I've seen. He became my favorite right from the start, and I kept him as a schutzhund competition dog. He is neutered as I have no plans to breed him.
