In 1998 I bred a litter using my rednose bitch, Grip to the last pure Sarona stud around. Grip had 14 pups; 12 were born alive. I kept most of the pups as I'm not one to sell to the public. I placed two with Grip's breeder and two with friends.

I learned A LOT from raising this litter. Raising 8 pups from birth allows you to see just what role genetics and environment plays in the development of the animal's personality.

I'm not sure why, but Butchie was special from day one. He wasn't the biggest, or the most beautiful, or the best worker. But he and I had a powerful bond which has lasted 11 years. Butchie has always been "just a pet" around here... he got his IWPA "Working Dog Superior" title, but that was it... He didn't need to do anything! He's just my buddy, always in the van with me, always curled up next to me in bed.
